Las Vegas 2007: A brief visit to Sin City in the ides of September 2007. In many ways, this environment represents the zenith of American culture in its appeal to populism and consumerism. And where else can you visit "Rome", "New York", "Venice", "Paris", "Egypt", and the "Caribbean" all in one day, and on foot? But snark aside, the desert light is amazing, especially at dusk.
Yosemite 2008: Visit to Yosemite National Park in the last days of 2008, through New Year's Day 2009.
London 2011: An April trip to London, with visits to the Tate Gallery, the Tate Modern, the British Museum, and the Victoria & Albert.
Bath Spa 2011: Day trip by train from London to Bath, site of ancient Roman baths and the late medieval Bath Abbey.
Stockholm 2016: Three days and two nights in Stockholm. Visits to the Thielska Galleriet and the Moderna Museet.
Helsinki 2016: Ferry from Tallinn across the Gulf of Finland to Helsinki. Visit to the Kansallisgalleria (Finnish National Gallery).
Tartu-Põlva 2016: Tartu is the oldest city in Estonia, established in 1030, home of Estonia's national university, Tartu Ülikool, where my dad and many of my relatives studied.
Tallinn-Rakvere 2016: An all-too-brief visit to Estonia.
Sweden 2016: Malmö, Stockholm, Baltic Sea, overnight ferry to Tallinn.
